The Wilting Empty
PostSubject: The Wilting   The Wilting Icon_minitimeMon May 04, 2009 8:15 am

It's more then just magic, it's the very physics of this land that are just a bit...off. It's a world as if straight from the folds of a young child's wildest dreams, with mythical creatures both known and imagined, and landscapes of pure wonderment and impossibility. However, things are not well.

The tides are pulling back, and the very threads of wonderment which makes this land so unique and wonderful are weakening. Laws that had been strong and stone set for thousands of years are beginning to fracture. As a consequence, several once high floating lands have plummeted to the turf far below, powers are failing, and many laws, laws of which people run their lives to, are loosing their predictability. Those dependant on the steady flow and predictability don't know what to do with themselves.

Most stay in their homes and villages, trying to make due with what they have, to the best of their ability. Others set out in search of the cause of this sudden change. Other still, take advantage of it; use the chaos to get what they need, and even edge it on. Then there are the ones in denial, who chose to disregard the obvious sights of failure all around them. As things become worse, though, those in denial become a far more endangered breed.

-----------------------------------

_Laws of the land_
-What goes up must come down......not necessarily--Thick air, low gravity, call it what you will, but it is far easier for object to float in this land. Something like a stone or a small animal could easily float up if launched with enough force, and in fact many animals use this as their very way of life. A small child couldn't float, but would find jumping and hovering an easy enough task. If launched high enough into the air, a medium sized body of land could also remain there, sometimes for many generations in places with little to no turbulence, or in altitudes above the storm clouds.

-Wildheart--Animals, beasts, and mythicals of all kinds have always held a link with the humanoid minds. They've held alliances with them for as long as anyone could remember. With the rifts shifting, though, the language barriers are blurring. Many have given up on their attempts to keep contact with human-kind, have turned their backs from the two leggers and their alliances. None knew how dependent they were on the wild-kin until they were gone. Wild-kin work as guards, allies in times of battle, assistants with farming and food gathering, and channels through which wild magic can be funneled into human use. Without them, aspects of magic have been very nearly crippled. Only the most druidic of heart can still hold communication with the wild-kin.

-More then a reflection--A pool of water, a lake, a river, sometimes even a puddle; those images you see, which don't match the landscape around you, may be more then just confused reflections. Sub-realms, most call them. They can be as small as a room, or as large as a second world, and they are usually located within the deepest heart of the wild.

-Creeping wood--The wilds are alive, in more ways then one, and they don't like to stay still. Remembering landmarks as you walk through these woods won't help you any here, odds are, that unique looking tree you noted on the first walk through will have long since wandered away by the time you turn around for your return trip. Likewise, the wood, and the animals, are not simple tags. Try and turn these trees into lumber and you'll have to fight for your fire, and if you try and make a meal of these beasts they could very well make a meal of you. That, and they are not simple hunt beasts, and would be greatly offended to be treated as such.

-Name--Aato
-Race-- Thyre elf
-Role-- Between denial and coping.
-Age-- 57
-Gender-- Male
-Appearance-- The Wilting Th_Boy005
Personality-- Defiant, curious, and eccentric, but naive, and easily frightened.
-Abilities--
-Taps wild magic for use in just about everything.
-Can charm beasts and make them do nearly whatever he wants. (( To charm he has to get right in their face and look them in the eye. It's his eyes that enchant. Takes only a few seconds to take affect...or it use to before magic began to fail.))
-Can bend the growth of nature to his whim. (( Makes things grow faster or slower, makes things grow in ways that they normally wouldn't, makes food grow larger and better, bends tree branches and brush into homes.))
-Can bend the element of air so that he can fly for short periods of time. ((To aid to that is his body length, ribbed cloak, which has slots for his arms and feet. It allows him to catch air and get flight like a flying squirrel.))
-Is fast, can jump high, and is flexible and lithe.
-Brief history-- He grew average enough, and became a collector once old enough. Collecting isn't as easy as it once was though.
-Belongings--
-Ribbed cloak for flight
-Pouch enchanted for ever-water
-Taming gem (wrapped around the neck of a tamed beast, it keeps them tamed even after they loose eye contact with him, and until he removes the gem.)
-Hold-stone, (holds the wild magic which he collects.)
-Weapons-- Hunt-blade, Sling, anything close enough to grab, his own hands and feet and teeth.

Name-- Locke
Race-- Hollow (It's an item that's usually inanimate, brought to life using magic and usually has little to no emotion. In this case, a scarecrow)
Role-- Manipulating (since I take it this makes him a bad guy)
Age-- Ageless but by technicallity about 5.
Gender-- "Male"
Appearance-- The Wilting 21743111
Personality-- Dark and Cynical. Believes that all life is simply driven by selfish impulses such as war and greed.
Abilities-- He's like a lifesized ragdoll so if he's hit, he'll slink back up. If part of him is cut off, he can sew it back on.
Brief history-- After accidentally being brought to life by a wicked man, this cloth skinned brute began to roam the world, watching the ways of its people, closely observing them and developing some very critical thoughts of them.
Belongings-- The Hat and scarf which he acquired from his creator after he'd passed.
Weapons-- A scythe
